Scholarship Overview
The Bill Vastine Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the life, leadership, and legacy of Bill Vastine—an industry icon, mentor, and visionary whose impact helped shape SITE Texas and the global incentives and hospitality community. This scholarship aims to support aspiring young leaders enrolled in university hospitality programs who demonstrate a passion for the incentive travel and events industry.

Bill believed deeply in cultivating talent and leading with integrity, heart, and vision. This scholarship exists to carry that spirit forward.

Purpose

To recognize and financially support emerging leaders who exemplify the values of innovation, collaboration, and service within the hospitality and incentive travel sector—principles that defined Bill Vastine’s life and career.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be currently enrolled in a college or university hospitality, tourism, or event management program (undergraduate or graduate level)

• Have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in meetings, incentives, or destination management

• Be between the ages of 18–35 (exceptions may be granted with explanation)

• Exhibit leadership qualities and a commitment to volunteerism or community service

• Be a resident of the United States

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following:

• Completed application form

• Resume

• Letter of recommendation from a professor or industry mentor

• Personal essay (500–750 words) answering:

  • ​"How do you plan to impact the hospitality and incentives industry, and how does Bill Vastine’s legacy inspire your journey?"

• Optional: Video submission (2–3 minutes) expressing your passion for the industry

Award Details

• Scholarship Amount: Covers registration for the SITE Young Leaders Conference, SITE Night, economy airfare, and up to three nights hotel accommodations (up to a $2,500 value). Recipient is required to attend SMART Monday

• $1,000 award to be used for school tuition provided by the Vastine Family

• Recognition during a SITE Texas event or board meeting

• Mentorship opportunity with a SITE Texas board memberComplimentary one-year student membership to SITE Texas

About Bill Vastine

Bill Vastine was more than a leader—he was a connector, a mentor, and a force of vision within the global meetings and incentives industry. As a founding member of SITE Texas and a past President of SITE Global, his work with Galactic Marketing Incentives and mentorship of countless professionals left a lasting imprint on the industry.

He played a pivotal role in forming the SITE Texas Chapter in 1998 and was inducted into the SITE Texas Circle of Honor in 2012 for his outstanding contributions. Bill's enthusiasm for excellence, education, and people-first leadership continues to inspire all who follow in his footsteps.

Bill’s influence endures in the industry and within SITE through his sons, Todd and Scott Vastine. Todd served as President of SITE Texas, and Scott as a valued member of the Board of Directors.
